Research Assistantship Opportunity The American University in Cairo Biology department and the Center of Excellence for Water Research Project Duration: 1 year, with a possibility for extension
Project overview
The environmental microbiology group within the biology department at the American
University in Cairo is looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) interested in
expressing, purifying, and immobilizing characterized extremozymes to be applied in
wastewater treatment applications. The research assistant will be supported by a research
assistantship salary.
Project Title
Tailored enzymatic and nano-based treatment of wastewater to detoxify heavy metals and
degrade antibiotics

Prof. Dr. Rania Siam (Principal investigator)
Dr. Rehab Abdallah (Co-Principal investigator)
Qualifications
Education: A minimum of a BSc. in biology, microbiology, biotechnology or related disciplines
MSc. in the above-mentioned fields is highly preferred, yet dedicated and accomplished
BSc. holders are more than welcome to apply
Prior research experience in molecular biology, enzyme/protein expression and characterization, and/or biological wastewater treatment is highly preferred. Motivation and dedication to reach the project outcomes.
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team
